چکیده
Purpose – In January 2002, the National Science Council of Taiwan launched a National Digital Archives Program (NDAP) and has proceeded with the implementation of a system related to the open archives initiative (OAI) framework. This paper aims to introduce the protocol and the prototype system of the project. Design/methodology/approach – A general review of the project. Findings – The OAI interoperability framework has received much attention from scholars of library and information sciences. In Europe and North America, many academic organizations and universities have undertaken theoretical studies, system design, and implementation of the OAI framework. In January 2002, the National Science Council of Taiwan launched a NDAP, and the institutional project of the National Taiwan University is one of its institutional projects. Now, the project has proceeded with the implementation of a system related to the OAI framework. Originality/value – Provides information of value to information professionals.

Facilitating Resource Utilization in Union Catalog Systems
Numerous papers have addressed building Union Catalog (UC) technologies, such as metadata schema, data exchange (e.g., OAI-PMH, Z39.50), and resource classification. In contrast to these approaches, in this article, we focus on UC technologies that leverage resource utilization across digital resources. We take the repositories of National Digital Archives Program (NDAP) in Taiwan as the projec...

The movement showed a rise in popularity, followed by a decline then a relative stabilization. This process was essentially a way to ensure the viability of open archive repositories. However, a me...

Within the context of digital libraries (DLs), we are making information objects "first-class citizens". We decouple information objects from the systems used for their storage and retrieval, allowing the technology for both DLs and information content to progress independently. We believe dismantling the stovepipe of "DL-archive-content" is the first step in building richer DL experiences for ...
